Does my TV have an ATSC 3.0 tuner?

If it does, nothing changes for you when stations switch. If it doesn’t, you’ll need a converter box when your market shuts off its old signals. Here’s how to tell in two minutes.

Three ways to check

  1. Look for the logo. TVs with a 3.0 tuner carry the “NEXTGEN TV” mark on the box, the spec sheet, or the retailer listing. Search your model number plus “NextGen TV”.
  2. Check the channel-scan menu. On the TV, go to Settings → Channels (or Broadcasting) → Auto scan / Channel setup. Sets with a 3.0 tuner show an option such as “ATSC 3.0,” “NextGen TV,” or let you choose between 1.0 and 3.0 scans.
  3. Age test. If your TV was made before 2020, it does not have one. No exceptions.

By brand

Brand-level guidance as of late 2026. Tuner support changes year to year, so always confirm your exact model number.

Brand3.0 tuner?Details
SamsungSome models, shrinkingMany 2020–2023 4K and 8K models (QN90/QN95/QN800/QN900 lines) have a 3.0 tuner. Samsung dropped it from OLED models in 2024 and from its 2025 4K lineup; as of 2026 only the Neo QLED 8K line keeps it. Check your exact model.
LGNo current modelsLG shipped 3.0 tuners in many 2020–2023 OLED and QNED sets, then stopped after losing a 2023 patent case and suspended NextGen TV support in U.S. models starting in 2024. If your LG is 2024 or newer, it does not have one.
SonyYes on mid-to-high endMost Bravia XR models since 2021 (X90J and up, A80/A90/A95 OLED) include a 3.0 tuner, and Sony has kept it in its high-end series. Entry-level sets generally don't.
HisenseYes on U7/U8 and upHisense added 3.0 tuners to its U7, U8, U9 and UX lines starting with 2021–2022 models and still includes them (for example the 2025 U8QG). Budget A-series sets don't.
TCLTop models onlyTCL reserves 3.0 for its flagship QM8/QM9-class sets; the Roku-powered and budget lines don't have it.
VizioNoNo Vizio TV has shipped with an ATSC 3.0 tuner.
Roku TV / Amazon Fire TV / Insignia / ToshibaNoStreaming-platform TVs from these brands do not include 3.0 tuners. A plug-in 3.0 adapter for Android TV and Fire TV sets is now on the market.

If your TV doesn’t have one

A converter box plugs into your antenna and your TV’s HDMI port and does the translating (full guide). Today the options are the ZapperBox M1 and the ADTH NextGen TV Box (roughly $90–$250), plus a new plug-in adapter for Android TV and Fire TV sets. Broadcasters say cheaper boxes are coming in 2027.

Our advice: don’t buy anything until your market has a real date. The FCC hasn’t set one. Enter your zip code and we’ll email you when it does.
